Sir:

I am directed by Lord R. Cecil to state for the in-

formation of lir, Secretary Bonar Law that a despatch

has been received from His Majesty's Consul General at Batavia, inquiring whether the continued sailings of the Java China Japan Steamers from the Netherlands East

Indian ports to San Francisco via kanila and Hong Kong

should be reported, and whether the manifests of these

steamers should continue to be transmitted to this

country..

Lord R. Cecil would be glad of any observations

which Lur. Boner Law ay care to offer, in regard to

this enquiry with special reference to the export of

pepper, peanuts &c to San Francisco,

A similar letter has been addressed to the Rubber

and Tin Exports Committee.
